A Bellingham resident recently started a freelance marketing business.

Mary Doherty founded RunningWriteAlong, LLC, after the agency she worked for in Seattle had significant layoffs.

"It was devastating to see, and be part of, a group of so many talented people who worked on accounts for Fortune 50 companies lose their jobs," Doherty said in an e-mail. "But in the advent, I discovered a niche of small-medium businesses that need and are willing to invest in marketing themselves."

Over the course of two months, Doherty launched her portfolio Web site, established her LLC and began growing her client base. She draws from a creative team with varying design styles and expertise from around the Pacific Northwest, including Bellingham.

RunningWriteAlong offers marketing and public relations services ranging from press releases and print collateral to full development and launch of Web sites. The company uses local vendors whenever possible for web hosting and printing projects. For more info, go to runningwritealong.com.
