2010 Census workers needed

Open less than three months, the Everett office for the 2010 U.S.Census plans to hire for more than 1,000 part-time positions in order to count every person from the King/Snohomish County line to the Canadian border.

The office serves Snohomish, Island, Skagit, Whatcom and San Juan counties and has more than 75 full-time employees.

People with flexible schedules are needed to fill part-time positions as enumerators, counting their neighbors in the upcoming census, according to a press release from the Everett office. Those who speak English as a second language are also needed to make sure their communities are properly represented.

People interested in these positions can call (866) 861-2010 to find a testing session nearest them. Tests are being conducted throughout Washington.

Tests in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan and Snohomish counties are being offered during the day, evenings and on weekends. 2010 Census job applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, be able to pass a background check and take a 30-minute multiple-choice employment test that measures knowledge, skills and abilities to perform a variety of census jobs.

To demonstrate how the Census operations will work in the North Sound, the Everett office will hold a public open house from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3. At the open house people can learn more about how operations are conducted, the jobs available, and how to apply. The office is at 1615 75th Street SW, Suite 110 in Everett.
