Sheena Hankins and Luke Hansey announce their engagement and plans for a September 25th wedding in Fairhaven. Sheena is the daughter of Trudy and Ken Wachtveitl of Burlington and Garry and Danelle Pool of Lynnwood. She is a graduate of Stanwood High School and Skagit Community College. Sheena is employed at Skagit State Bank. Luke is the son of Randy and Karen Hansey of Mount Vernon. He is a graduate of Mount Vernon High School and Skagit Community College. Luke is a co-owner of Steam Interactive Web Development. The couple met in high school through mutual friends. The proposal took place in San Francisco on their 10 year anniversary.

Squalicum sophomore running back Luke Weber was selected the High School Football Player of the Week in an online vote at TheBellinghamHerald.com.

Weber received 124 (41 percent) of the 301 votes cast by online readers to beat out Ferndale's Alex Conley, Blaine's Mario Gobbato, Bellingham's Oliver Dougherty, Nooksack Valley's Trevon Myhre and Meridian's Casey Smith.

Weber rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns in the Storm's 38-14 victory over Sehome on Friday, Oct. 14. He now has 531 yards and six TDs so far this year.

PREP BOYS' TENNIS: Sehome's Smith, Lynden doubles team advance to state

Sehome's Nick Smith and the Lynden doubles team of Nolan Wolffis and Luke Reardon won Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament consolation finals at Sehome High School to advance to the state tournament in May.

Smith beat Lynden's Travis McKee 6-3, 6-4 to punch his ticket to state after losing in the title match 6-2, 6-0 to teammate Avery West on Tuesday. McKee will be a state alternate.

"Today he played well and Travis McKee played well. It was a pretty darn good match," Sehome coach Bonna Giller said in a phone interview of Smith. "He was very motivated and focused on earning a trip to state."

Women accountants raise scholarship dollars

The Bellingham affiliate of the American Society of Women Accountants raised $4,500 for its scholarship fund and its first annual dessert auction on Nov. 15 at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.

The North Cascades chapter auctioned about 50 silent items, followed by the live auction.

Eight cakes auctioned from Whatcom and Skagit county bakers included a calculator spice cake, gluten-free chocolate torte and a four-layer lemon cake.
