  Betty Bell Norton will be the featured speaker at the Thursday meeting of the Columbia River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

  Her topic will be Mary "Polly" Hawkins Craig and her husband Talifaro "Toliver" Craig, including the Aug. 15-17, 1782, siege of Bryan's Station near Lexington, Ky.

  The program starts at noon at Tri-Tech Skills Center, 5929 W. Metaline Ave., Kennewick.

  Then along comes a first-time robber (Eduardo Noriega) who derails the plan, and Butch has no choice but to strap on his six-shooter and grudgingly ride with the greenhorn.

  LIQUOR PRIVITIZATION: Idaho grocers mull mounting a campaign

  BOISE — A grocery industry lobbyist met with Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter and other officials over mounting a campaign to privatize Idaho’s state-controlled liquor sales, as retailers like Costco Wholesale Corp. hope success in neighboring Washington will spread to neighboring states.

  Northwest Grocery Association President Joe Gilliam met with Otter staff, as well as Secretary of State Ben Ysursa, in a “meet and greet” on Dec. 20 to learn how to get a voter initiative on next November’s ballot.

  Gilliam must collect 47,432 registered voter signatures by April 30.
