  Two Tri-Citians were killed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and they are buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl overlooking Honolulu.

  Bob Pace figures he's fortunate to be publishing his novels in the era of electronic books, especially since he thinks the day of the 180,000-word printed novel is over for most authors.

  The 59-year-old author, who writes as R.L. Pace, and his wife, Nancy, came to Bellingham in 1992 and formerly operated a local catering company.

  Pace recently released his first two novels, "Island Dawn" and "Rising Son," in an epic trilogy covering more than a century in the lives of three fictional families of Japanese heritage, beginning in 1870. He plans to have the third novel, "Pacific Vespers," done next year.
