  Western Washington University senior defender Alicia Patten was a first-team choice for the third straight year to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer all-star team announced today.

  Patten was one of four Vikings selected to the first team. Also picked were junior goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs, senior midfielder Justina MacDowell and senior defender Emily Warman.

  WWU senior forward Emily Frankland was named to the second team and receiving honorable mention were senior midfielder Megan Chapin, freshman midfielder Kim Cooper and sophomore midfielder Brina Sych.

  Justina MacDowell scored two goals and Megan Chapin had a goal and two assists as Western Washington University rolled to a 4-1 win over Western Oregon University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Thursday, Sept. 29, at the WOU Soccer Field.

  The four goals were a season high for the Vikings, all of them by players who had not scored previously this fall. WWU, which had just six goals in its first eight games, improved to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2-0 in GNAC action.

  "Megan was an important player for us today with a goal and two assists and Justina had two goals off corner kicks," WWU coach Travis Connell said in a press release. "We've been so close on our free kicks, corner kicks and other restarts this season, and to get two goals off those is a good breakthrough for us. We needed to find a way to score on our restarts, so that is a good sign going forward."

  The Western Washington University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games, as the Vikings blanked Western Oregon University 3-0 on senior day Saturday, Oct. 29, at Orca Field.

  The Vikings received goals from Brina Sych, Kristen Maris and Megan Chapin.

  Sych opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a goal from 12 yards out off a pass from Western's Emily Warman.

  A massive advantage in shot attempts didn't produce a goal for Western Washington as it tied Montana State Billings, 0-0 in overtime, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Thursday, Oct. 20, at home.

  The Vikings, who are now 6-5-3 overall and 5-4-1 in GNAC action, had a 24-6 shot advantage.

  MSUB was helped by the efforts of goalkeeper Danielle Gordon, who had 12 saves in registering her sixth shutout of the season.

  Western Washington University was blanked 3-0 by league-leading and nationally ranked Seattle Pacific University in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's soccer contest Saturday, Oct. 15, in Seattle.

  The Vikings fell to 6-5-2 overall and 5-4-0 in GNAC action, losing for the second straight time, both on the road, following a stretch of five wins in six games.

  Seattle Pacific, ranked No.14 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America/NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 11-2-0 overall and tops the conference at 8-1-0. The win was the Falcons' fourth straight.
