  Four Western Washington University runners were named for the third straight year and 11 overall to the 2011 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Cross Country academic all-star team released today.

  The quartet of three-year honorees included Lauren Breihof, Eric Brill, Sierra Brisky and Phoebe Hartnett.

  TDespite a letdown in the second set, the Sehome volleyball team cruised to a road win over Meridian 25-10, 19-25, 25-14, 25-7 in a Northwest Conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

  Megan Johnson and Alicia Ford each led the Mariners with 10 kills while Ford had a team-high eight aces. They held Meridian to fewer than 14 points every set other than the second.

  "They served well to us and we just had a hard time keeping focused and disciplined the second game," Sehome coach Kristy White said in a phone interview. "We have been working on our defense and passing and it really showed in the first game."

  The Sehome volleyball team still has a chance to advance to the Class 2A State Tournament.

  The Mariners opened the Class 2A Northwest District Tournament with a 3-2 victory over Archbishop Murphy on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at South Whidbey. The Mariners then lost to Anacortes 3-0 in a district semifinal.

  "They did a good job," Sehome coach Kristy White said in a phone interview on her team's play at district.

  PREP VOLLEYBALL: Mariners earn No. 3 seed to state tournament

  With two consecutive wins on Saturday, November 5, at South Whidbey High School, the Sehome volleyball team earned third place out of the Class 2A District Tournament and a trip to the state tournament.

  The Mariners defeated Lynden 25-21, 22-25, 25-14, 25-16 in the second round of consolation before beating Archbishop Murphy 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 in the winner take third, loser fourth of the district tournament.

  "Man is it great," Sehome coach Kristy White said in a phone interview. "I am really proud of my girls."
