  Kayla Tiemersma had 17 points and Hannah Wynstra added 14 as the Lynden Christian girls' basketball team opened Northwest Conference play with a 69-31 win Friday, Dec. 16, at home over Squalicum.

  The Lyncs forced 36 turnovers by the Storm.

  "We put some pressure on them and cause a (few) of turnovers," LC coach Curt DeHaan said in a phone interview. "I thought the girls did a really good job defensively tonight."

  Amber Stokes scored 19 points and added 11 rebounds as the Lynden girls' basketball team handed Squalicum its fifth straight loss with a 57-54 non-conference victory on Friday, Dec. 9.

  Lynden built a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter and shut the door on any chance of a Squalicum rally by outscoring the Storm 19-6 the final quarter.

  Jessica Greene led Squalicum (0-5) with 13 points, nine from the 3-point line, and Janna Poradun had 11 points and nine rebounds.

  Lew and Sonja Denney of Bellingham are pleased to announce the marriage of their daughter Janna, to Andrew Shamp, son of Peter and Janice Shamp of Sedro Woolley. The couple was married on June 25th in the Coeur d’Alene Wedding Chapel surrounded by their parents and a few close friends. A wedding celebration was recently held at Whatcom Falls Park.

  Janna is a graduate of WCC with a degree in General Business, and employed as assistant manager at See's Candies. Andrew served four years in the US Marine Corp Infantry, is a graduate of SVC with a degree in Diesel Power Technology, and is employed at Farmer's Equipment. They met through match-making efforts of mutual friends and are making their home in Skagit Valley.

  PREP GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Grattic leads Lynden past Squalicum

  Kortney Grattic scored at least 18 points for the seventh consecutive game to lead the Lynden girls' basketball team to a 65-55 Northwest Conference victory against host Squalicum on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

  Lynden (11-4, 6-2 NWC) bounced back after seeing its four-game winning streak came to an end against Sehome on Jan. 23.

  Squalicum (1-14, 1-7) trailed 32-20 at halftime, but a rejuvenated second-half effort brought the Storm to within seven in the fourth quarter. Lynden quickly hit a reversal 3-pointer to push the lead back to 10.
