It's 2,900-foot plus elevation sometimes keeps Chopaka chilly and a slow starter, but its relative isolation nominates it as one of this state's premier fly-fishing waters. Motors of any kind are banned and the governing rule is fly fishing only.

Angler notes: Camping is permitted. Some rainbows should verge on 20 inches.

Open water: 179 acres.

Season: last Saturday in April to October 31.

Angling quarry here: Rainbows.

Stocking for 2008: 4,000 catchable rainbows and 1,000 14-inch rainbows.

Special rules: Season plus fly fishing only, no motors, no minimum size limit and one trout per day limit. For other game-fish, statewide size and bag limits apply.

Boat launch: WDFW access for carry-in (car-topper) boats on west side mid-way up.

Getting there: Take Highway 20 to the Okanogan River valley. At Tonasket drive north on the west valley highway, turn left on the Loomis-Oroville Road drive to Loomis and turn right on Sinlahekin Road. Drive just over two miles to a left turn onto Toats Coulee Road and watch for the Chopaka road several miles up.
