OVERVIEW
Silver Beach neighborhood wraps around the west and north end of Lake Whatcom, the citys drinking water source and a popular lake for swimming and boating.
Many homes are upscale, with views of the lake and hillsides. The southern part of the neighborhood is heavily wooded and populated with mostly smaller homes.
Many of the windy streets lack sidewalks, but traffic generally is light.
In addition to Bloedel Donovan Park, the biggest city park on the lake, the neighborhood has nearby Scudders Pond, with trails leading to Whatcom Falls Park. Big Rock Garden Park is a calming, landscaped Eden filled with outdoor sculptures.
HISTORY
White City amusement park dominated the north end of Lake Whatcom from 1906 until 1919, when it closed. Patrons rode the Lake Line streetcar to White City to enjoy its roller coaster, Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, dance hall, ice cream parlor and Silver Beach Hotel.

QUOTE
This neighborhood has almost a summer-getaway feel to it. Its safe and close to downtown, yet it feels very far away from downtown.
