With quiet dignity and grace, Muriel D. Abbott died peacefully on May 20, 2007, after saying goodbye to her family. Born on February 23, 1922, Muriel touched the lives of many as she raised, taught, and provided wisdom to her children and the children of others. As a longtime middle-school teacher in Bellingham, Muriel especially valued and respected those students who struggled, those who were angry, and those who needed a kind word of support.
Muriel was most proud of her children and gave each of them elements of her courage, independence, and resourcefulness. Her presence will be greatly missed by those children: Kathy and Jeff Dorr, Tom and Claudia Abbott, Karen Hougen, and Barb and Terry Noteboom. Grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she loved each one in a special way unique to them. Kenny, Katie, Jayme, Dustin, Hans, Sammi Jo, Sean, Kellan, and great-grandson Logan will treasure the times they spent with their grandma.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Muriels name may be made to: Royal Family Kids Camp, Hillcrest Chapel, 1400 Larrabee Ave, Bellingham, WA 98225.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 on June 2, 2007, at the First Congregational Church in Bellingham. A picnic in her honor will follow.
