Helen turns 90 on 15 Nov. 2009 and will celebrate with an open house at 216 Northshore Dr. from 1:30-3:30 on the 15th. Hosted by her children, Donna Kuiken, Dean and Judy Bame and Ron and Diane Wilson. No gifts please.
Inez (Askland) Sorenson Berg
Open House 90th Birthday Party, Immanuel Bible Church, 2000 W. North St., Bellingham, 1-4 pm Saturday, Nov. 14. A visual presentation of her life will be shown at 2 pm. Inez was born at home in Glen Echo, which was the center of her life until she married neighbor Helmer Sorenson in 1939. They moved to Bremerton and returned to Bellingham in 1946. Her four girls, Kathy Hayes and Barbara Johnson of Bellingham, Noreen Cooper of Pt. Roberts and Lori (Ben) Adderly of Lynden were raised at Immanuel Bible Church, where Inez is a charter member. For 51 years, Inez has been a house mother for some 600 college girls at Western Manor, 805 N. Garden St. Helmer died in 1987 and Inez later married another Glen Echo neighbor, Jim Berg. She and Jim have enjoyed many travels together (especially cruising).
William (Bill) Anderson
Bill will celebrate his 80th birthday Nov. 11th at his home with his family at 4915 Samish Way #1. Bill grew up in Point Roberts. He moved to Bellingham in 1952 where he met his wife Mary (Marsh). They have 4 children, 3 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Bill worked for the Port of Bellingham as assistant director of finance & administration until he retired in 1985. Coming from a family of fishermen, he can be found most days down at the waterfront checking out the boats.
Marvin and Leona Robertson
Marvin and Leona Robertson celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on October 25th with family. They have 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Marvin is a retired Bellingham mail carrier; Leona is a retired hairstylist. They live in Alger in a house they built themselves and enjoy spending time with family and doing projects together.
Tanya Schouten & Nigel VandenBrink
Tanya Schouten & Nigel VandenBrink were united in marriage on August 21, 2009, at Hotel Bellwether in Bellingham, WA. The bride's cousin, Troy VanDyke, officiated. The bride is the daughter of Marv & Rachelle Schouten of Lynden. Alfred & Cora VandenBrink of Chilliwack, B.C., are parents of the groom. Janel Bisschop served as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Trish Timmer, Marissa VanDiest, Danielle Johnson, Patrizia Brasser, Karlie Reinsma, Meagan Bladies & Breanna VandenBrink. Mikiya Nyhoff served as flower girl & Reese Nyhoff bell ringer. Serving as best man was Jeremy Goosen. Groomsmen were Jarin VandenBrink, Trent Schouten, Brandon Bisschop, Chris Vermeer, Tim Wierks, & Tanner Schouten. Easton Nyhoff was the ringbearer. Tanya is a graduate of Lynden Christian & NW Hair Academy. Nigel is a graduate of CTC Abbotsford, B.C. The couple resides in Chilliwack.

Foster & Ellen Courtney
Foster & Ellen Courtney of Lynden are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They were married on November 6th, 1959 in Bellingham. They are having an Open House Celebration on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the VFW Hall, 7011 Hannegan Rd, Lynden from 1:00-5:00pm. Foster retired in 1990 from construction work. Foster was in the Army from 1950-1952, on the front lines in Korea for nine months. Foster & Ellen work together on the Family Farm. Their children are John & Karen of Lynden, Jill & Mike of Everson, Julie & Randy of Anchorage, and Jim & Christy of Lynden, along with eight grandchildren-Teresa, Johnny, Hannah, Jordan, Heather, Jeffery, Paige & Foster. They are planning a trip in January to Hawaii. Foster celebrated his 84th birthday on November 1st. No gifts please.
