Whatcom County residents celebrate summer by honoring the region's bounty of berries. Here's a look at berry-related festivals this summer:

STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL AT BOXX BERRY FARM

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 23-24

Free strawberry sundaes, farm wagon tours and children’s train rides. Discount on U-pick purchases over 20 pounds. Additional events: Raspberry Festival in early July, Blueberry Festival in mid-August and Corn Festival in late August; call for dates at 380-2699 or go to www.boxxberry farm.com

IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH STRAWBERRY SOCIAL AND DINNER

5 to 7 p.m. June 21, if berries are ready

5782 Lawrence Road, Everson (¼-mile north off Mount Baker Highway at Dobson's Corner)

Spaghetti dinner with a huge serving of homemade strawberry shortcake and musical entertainment. Donations divided among Foothills Food Bank, Womencare Shelter, Hospice of Whatcom County and Lutherwood Summer Camp scholarships for kids. Donations for the event can be mailed to the church. Thrivent Financial matches funds at 50 cents on the dollar. Cost by donation. Details: 592-5876.

ST, FRANCIS STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE FUNDRAISER

11 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 21

Homemade strawberry shortcake. $2.50 per person. Funds benefit the Intergenerational Child Care Program. Sponsored by St. Francis Foundation. St. Francis Extended Health Care, 3121 Squalicum Parkway. Details: Sally Mijkut at 734-6760.

GLEN ECHO STRAWBERRY SOCIAL

6:30 to 8 p.m. June 30

Homemade strawberry shortcake and beverages, basket raffle and musical entertainment by Sweet Adelines. Suggested donation: $6, $3 for those older than 60 or younger than 6; basket raffle $1. Proceeds go to improving Glen Echo Community Building. Located at the corner of Goodwin and South Pass roads in the Everson/Nooksack area. Details: 966-7370, ext. 4.

STRAWBERRY WAFFLE FEED AT McPHAIL BERRY FARM

8 a.m. to noon July 4

Red, white and blue waffles with strawberries, blueberries and whipped cream plus children's train rides, petting zoo and hay rides. No admission or parking fees.

LYNDEN RASPBERRY FESTIVAL

July 13-14

Friday afternoon/evening activities include the Curt Maberry Memorial Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, raspberry and ice cream sundaes, and live jazz concerts. Saturday includes same events plus a car show, sidewalk sale, 5K run/walk for cancer, raspberry field tours, children’s activities and games, street vendors, fresh berries for sale, prize drawings and more. The Lynden Pioneer Museum offers a special raspberry display and free arts and crafts for kids all day Saturday. Details: 354-5995 or www.lynden.org.

BELLINGHAM FARMERS MARKET VERY BERRY FESTIVAL

10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 14

Berry tasting, pie-eating contest, strawberry shortcake and raspberry lemonade with music and entertainment.

RASPBERRY FESTIVAL AT McPHAIL BERRY FARM

11 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 14

Barbecue, music by Clearbrook Connection, hay rides, children's train rides and all types of raspberry desserts. No admission or parking fees.
