Republicans often cry that the Democrats engage in class warfare by wanting to tax the rich at higher rates. Meanwhile the deregulation of financial institutions, businesses, and the stock market, and lowered tax rates for the wealthy have resulted in the greatest disparity in individual wealth since just before the Great Depression.

In 2001 the richest 18 percent of all income was held by the richest one percent of all households. In 2006 the richest one percent of all households held 23 percent of all income. This is the second highest level since records have been kept. The highest level: 1928. In September alone, when John McCain said that "the fundamentals of the economy are strong", the economy lost 159,000 jobs. Now the stock market crash has wiped out a large proportion of our wealth and retirement savings.

I believe this is the real class warfare. It is Republican class warfare.

Democrats warned about this, but George Bush has had a Republican congress for six years of his presidency. For the last two years the Democrat majority has not been large enough to withstand Bush's vetoes.

We cannot afford more of McCain/Bush's Republican policies. Please vote for Obama, Gregoire, and the other Democratic candidates.
