Tired of money for war but not health

Now the Bush administration has cut the $8 million-a-year program that protects consumers from high levels of pesticides and chemicals in our food. "Too expensive," they say.

But we can afford $850 billion for war? Wait. We just passed Oct. 1. Add the additional $70 billion that was just approved.

None of that is too expensive? But the very food that we and our children eat, our water, our schools, our health, is just too expensive?

We are allowing our nation to self-destruct and a huge part of this is that we believe it's all in Washington, D.C., and out of our hands.

U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen represents Whatcom, Skagit, Snohomish, Island, and San Juan counties. He has voted "yes" for every defense bill that President Bush has requested - $920 billion have gone to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. But a measly $8 million to protect our food and health is just not a priority.

If Rick Larsen is not local, who is? Call him, write him, protest his voting record and priorities. Send him a bigger message on your ballots. Write in my husband, Bill Distler, for Congress, 2nd District. He is a man that will vote for war no more.
