In a never ending quest for Opinion page fodder, I believe The Bellingham Herald managed to solve two problems with the Thursday, Sept. 4, column from a former Alaskan. The editor used over a quarter of a page and managed to support the general media view of Gov. Sarah Palin as well.
I believe it matters not to The Herald that the column seems to rail on Governor Palin because of a disagreement with the author's personal views rather than her actual qualifications. Keep in mind that those views conflict with Governor Palin's 80 percent approval rating by her constituents.
With that sort of favor, being the "lesser of two evils" must mean that the evil in Alaska is extremely bad.
Note too, that the author is a Ron Paul advocate. Ron Paul had a voter approval rating in the primary elections of even less than Alaskans opposed to Gov. Palin. Ron Paul is a good man, but is often out of step with a party in transition.
The column was conveniently inserted the morning after Gov. Palin's speech, positioned below a particularly nasty cartoon. All of that saying scads about the Herald's supposedly unbiased point of view.
