I respectfully disagree with the Aug. 19 letter writer who groaned and opined with disgust over the presence of Army recruiters at the Northwest Washington Fair. He labeled it shameful and inappropriate and would even boycott future fairs unless the military presence is banned.
I strongly suggest that our military, is the reason we in the U.S. have any and all of the freedoms and liberties we now take so blatantly for granted. Even taking time out to appreciate our "agricultural heritage" at the fair, try to imagine our way of life right now if not for a strong military. Regardless of all the many problems we face as a nation now, I dare say there would not be even a vestige of what we have now and enjoy.
The writer would implore to our armed forces, "protect us from those who rabidly want to destroy us, and I regret that many of you will give your life to secure my very life and many freedoms, but really - your presence at the fair is outrageous!"
Let not wait for the next flag-draped coffin, or a moment of silence on Memorial Day to be thankful for and to honor those who willingly go into harm's way for our sake.
