The letter writer who said the Northwest Washington Fair should not allow military recruiters a booth at the fair needs to be reminded of our freedoms as a citizen and who protects these freedoms.
We exercise the right to visit this booth or not. This country, and the military, have protected these rights. Our rights would not be intact today if it were not for those who founded this country and the military's constant presence protecting our way of life.
We commend the community of Lynden, with their unbiased and open attitude, for inviting the military to the fair. To accuse the fair with promoting war is a totally ignorant attitude.
Nor does the military promote war. Rather they protect us whenever or wherever needed. I wonder if the letter's author would welcome the National Guard in his time of need during a natural disaster.
He should express his displeasure toward our elected officials, as is your right, concerning our military matters. Don't put down our military personnel or our local community.
If the author cannot have an open mind concerning the interests of everyone, then he can surely choose not attend this fair, which is his right.
