The Bellingham Herald editorial board decided to endorse the local boy for the 40th District state Senate. I suppose that is what small town newspapers do. But The Herald aspires to more, and I am disappointed.

The issues in the state Legislature are not Bellingham and Whatcom County against other jurisdictions or one profession against another. Serving in the Legislature is about cooperation and advancing the goals of our region.

The transportation planning issues are regional in nature. So is cleaning up Puget Sound and responding to global climate change. We need a state senator with vision, wisdom and courage to seek solutions to pressing problems. That is why I urge readers to vote for Kevin Ranker for 40th District Washington state Senate. He will work for family wage jobs, environmental stewardship and quality schools - values we all believe in.

Kevin Ranker has unmatched experience and proven leadership.
