Shepherd will bring new insights to court

Doug Shepherd's 28 years of trial experience will bring fresh, unique and valuable insights to the Superior Court system of Whatcom County.

The incumbent has more than 20 years experience as a hearing examiner, court commissioner (presiding over matters the Superior Court judges do not have time for) and for the past 3-1/2 years as a Superior Court judge.

By contrast, Shepherd has tried jury and non-jury cases and represented clients in both state and federal courts for more than 28 years. Many of the matters involved representation of clients against the powerful institutions of our society; i.e., banks, state governments, the federal government, large corporations, large insurance companies, etc. He has also represented insurance companies and large corporations.

It has been my observation in 27 years as his law partner, that his mere presence in any organization makes everyone else try harder to perform at their best. Being cynical, disillusioned or discouraged are not terms which apply to Shepherd.

Doug Shepherd has never been afraid to speak truth to power. If, after he is elected as a Superior Court judge, a bureaucratic boat needs rocking to protect the public interest and the integrity of our judicial system, Doug will not hesitate to rock it.
