Greed at the heart of our national scandals

“Follow the money trail,” was Deep Throat’s advice. Thirty-five years ago the trail led to CREEP, the Committee to Reelect the President.

The president’s men financed crimes to subvert the election. Nixon resigned after the Watergate plot was exposed.

The Bush scandals began with Enron’s discovery that “Less is more.”

Shutting down generators caused blackouts in California, but higher rates for consumers and profits for power companies.

The Iraq War provided similar profits to the oil, arms, construction and security companies.

Privatized armies and prisons led to torture, corruption and Blackwater profits.

There were more profits for a few insiders as hurricanes and earthquakes spread across the world.

Who profits? The money trail explains everything.

“Less is more” infects the health care industry with costs doubling as service decreased to those most in need.

Then the mortgage companies repossessed homes by making “loans” that people could never repay.

Stratospheric gas prices added more profits for the oil companies.

The trail ends with everything for the corporations, nothing for the people. The robber barons have had their day.

It is time to stop the corporate welfare programs and throw the rascals out. Send our kids to college, not to the battlefield.
