The notice in customers’ recent electric bill about the takeover of Puget Sound Energy by Australian and Canadian organizations is cause for concern.
The company acquiring control of PSE, Macquairie, is a large Australian conglomerate with a variety of financial interests around the world. One might consider that their major concern is not in providing electrical service, but in adding another profit source to their group of holdings. Is that good for us?
PSE will cease to be a publicly traded stock company. This means that a person with one or 100 shares of stock can not stand up in an annual meeting in Bellevue and express concerns about service to a board of directors and to corporate officers. Do we want this?
People not believing this merger to be a good idea can challenge it by speaking up at a Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission public hearing May 20, at the Bellingham Senior Center, 315 Halleck St.
