It’s time to stop wasting taxpayer dollars and everyone’s time. North Sound Conservancy members strongly urge the Chuckanut Mountains Park District Advisory Committee to withdraw their proposal to create a 66 square mile park district over two counties.
Opposition to this unnecessary proposal is growing as citizens, organizations, and agencies find out the truth. Overtaxed citizens don’t want the high CMPD tax. Agencies, like fire districts, don’t want the jurisdictional chaos. Parks and recreation departments and school districts don’t want to lose revenue or grant funding to this unnecessary new level of government.
The Skagit County Boundary Review Board denied the CMPD proposal and the Skagit Valley Herald endorsed that decision. The Whatcom County Superior Court denied the Advisory Committee’s attempt to prevent the Whatcom BRB from having the right to make a similar decision. The Bellingham Herald’s editorial stated, “...we recommend that citizens and community leaders reject the plan”.
On behalf of North Sound Conservancy members; and like-minded citizens, agencies, and governments of both Whatcom and Skagit Counties, please, CMPD Advisory Committee, do the right thing —immediately withdraw your proposal to create the totally unnecessary, and increasingly opposed, Chuckanut Mountains Park District.
