Sehome’s Tanya Haggen scored a goal and assisted on two others in last week’s U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships at Honolulu.
Haggen, a forward, and midfielder Kim Cooper, from Bellingham High School, played for Northwest Nationals G91 Red (Nemisis), which won the U16 state championship in May. Haggen will be a junior this fall at Sehome and Cooper will be a sophomore at Bellingham.
The Nationals were eliminated after going 1-2 in the 16-team tournament.
Haggen assisted on both goals for the Nationals in their 2-1 win over Colorado Rush Nike. She also scored their lone goal and had another called back in a 3-1 loss to Real So Cal.
So. Cal Blues, the defending national champion, then shut out the Nationals 4-0.
So. Cal Blues defeated Real So Cal 3-0 in the regional championship game Sunday.
RANGERS TEAMS DO WELL
The WFC Rangers GU15 Gold girls’ soccer team took first place last weekend in the Skagit Firecracker GU15 Gold Division.
The Rangers went undefeated and scored 11 goals while giving up just one goal. In the final, the Rangers defeated LOSC Hurricanes (Lake Oswego, Ore.) 1-0.
Team members are: Rachel Albert, Noelle Kogan, Coryn Bajema, Catherine Miles, Anna Griffith, Sarah Taubenheim, Jessica Bertucci, Madison Heilmann, Ashley Putnam, Brianna Smith, Randi Donahue, Danielle Dorr, Kelli Bannerman, Haley Smith, Sam Logan, Megan Mullarky, Nikki Thon and Teya Mischaikov. The Rangers are coached by Marc Ronney and Claire Morgan.

The Rangers went undefeated and scored 12 goals while shutting out their opponents. They defeated Emerald City White (Seattle) 2-0 in the final.

The Rangers are coached by Marc Ronney, John Gibb and Joe Gonzalez.
BLAZE WINNING TOURNEYS
The Bellingham Blaze, a Cal Ripken 10U all-star baseball team, has won two tournaments so far this summer and will participate in the Cal Ripken state tournament July 3-6 in Moses Lake.
The Blaze won the eightteam Ferndale Summer Slam last weekend after winning all six games. Earlier this month the Blaze won the 10-team Lynden Summer Kickoff.
The Blaze finished second in the state last summer.
Current team members are Charlie Carmichael, Jashawn Dorsey, Jonathan Larson, Aaron Nichols, Will Nickelson, Nick Nolan, Zack Nolan, Cole Phelps, Drew Segren, Austin Shenton, Ernie Yake and Felix Zavisubin. The team is coached by Bob Carmichael, Vern Yake and Brian Phelps.

Several Whatcom County skaters recently competed in the Northwest Regional Roller Figure Skating Championships on June 15-17 in Portland.

SEVENTH-GRADE HOOPS TEAM WINS TITLE
The Pat Rimmer Ballers, a seventh- grade AAU basketball team, won the School is Out Tournament on Sunday in Lynnwood.
In the championship, the Pat Rimmer Ballers were losing 35- 18 to the Anacortes Seahawks at halftime, but rallied to win 55-49.
The team, coached by Dave Harmon, consists of Blaze Yetter, Titi Lamositelle, Malik Williams, Blake Harmon, Ben Carrol, Trey Clark, Marcus Reynolds, Gabe Sanchez, Patrick Gibson and Noah Cyr-Moore.

The Ski to Sea race committee picked the winners of the YouTube Video Contest.
