Colon cancer test kits offered free this month

KIE RELYEA / THE BELLINGHAM HERALD

BELLINGHAM - Free colorectal cancer detection kits will be available from St. Joseph Hospital's Cancer Center through March 31.

The Hemoccult II kits and informational brochures will be available at the cancer center, as well as at local pharmacies and senior activity centers, beginning Friday, March 6. Completed tests will be analyzed by the cancer center and results will be mailed to participants.

Colorectal cancer is the third-most common cancer resulting in death in the U.S. Using the home-testing kit reduces the cancer's mortality rate by 30 percent.
