G-P mill roof catches fire

JOHN STARK

BELLINGHAM — A small fire broke out Monday morning on the roof of the Georgia-Pacific Corp. tissue mill, where workers were beginning the process of demolishing the structure.

The trouble started when sparks from a rotary saw hit paper dust that had accumulated on roof beams. Bellingham Assistant Fire Chief Roger Christensen said the workers were attacking the blaze with fire extinguishers when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters were at the scene for about three hours, peeling back the roof to get at the hot spots.
