POINT ROBERTS - Residents must now deliver their own garbage and recyclables to the transfer station, because Point Recycling and Refuse is no longer doing pickups.

If residents see illegally dumped garbage, they should contact the county health department at (360)676-6724. If anybody sees somebody illegally burning garbage, they should contact the Northwest Clean Air Agency at (800) 622-4627.

"We're just asking people to not illegally dump and to take it to the transfer station," the county's environmental health supervisor, Jeff Hegedus, said. He was optimistic people would do so, and that they'd help their elderly neighbors take garbage to the station at 2005 Johnson Road.

"I don't have the expectation that everyone's going to start throwing their stuff on the ground," he said. "That's a beautiful place up there and everyone wants to keep it beautiful."
