The haze hanging over Bellingham on Sunday, July 5, was smoke from a fire on Portage Island, according to Fire Dispatch.
The Lummi Nation Natural Resources Department was responding to the fire with assistance from the state Department of Natural Resources, which fights wildland fires on state land.
The size of the fire was estimated at 2 1/2 acres and was burning brush and driftwood, said Tammy Olson, an information officer with the Department of Natural Resources.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
