Volunteer river stewards will be out on the north fork of the Nooksack River through summer to raise awareness about endangered native spring chinook salmon and to promote low-impact recreation.
A program of Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, the stewards will kick off their interpretive events July 11.
All events are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
Upcoming events are:
"Wild About Salmon Campfire Talk" in the picnic shelter at Douglas Fir Campground in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The Saturday talks about salmon ecology and the fish of the Nooksack River begin at 6 p.m. July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Sept. 5.
"Noisy Waters: A Nooksack River Walk" is at Horseshoe Bend trailhead in Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest. The guided stream walks begin at 9 a.m. on July 12, 19, 26, Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Sept. 6, 12, 19 and 26.
