Washington State Patrol troopers will be looking for dangerous and unsafe drivers this holiday weekend.

The extra patrols will begin Friday, July 3, and continue through Sunday, July 5, in Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom and Island counties, said Trooper Keith Leary.

Troopers also will be using aircraft to spot aggressive and impaired drivers, Leary said.

WSP is asking drivers to use caution if traveling over the weekend. Allow extra travel time and expect back-ups if traveling on Interstate 5.

Construction limitations and high demand are expected to back up traffic around Marysville and in areas north of there to about the Skagit/Snohomish County line, Leary said. As always, traffic may be heavy from Everett south into the Seattle area.

People are encouraged to call 911 if they spot aggressive, impaired or unsafe drivers. The license plate number, a vehicle description, location and direction of travel are helpful for assisting troopers in locating offenders, Leary said.
