With the Fourth of July falling on a Saturday this year, government offices and some businesses will close Friday, July 3, in observance of Independence Day. Most retail stores, restaurants, movie theaters and video stores will be open, though some places may have limited hours. Here is a list of some key places and their status Friday and Saturday. Government offices
Whatcom County offices: closed.
Bellingham city offices: closed.
Whatcom County library branches, bookmobile: branches open Friday but central services closed. All closed Saturday.
Bellingham Public Library: closed Friday and Saturday.
Bellingham parking meters: no meters Friday.
Services/businesses
Banks: most will have regular hours Friday, closed Saturday.
U.S. Postal Service: regular hours and delivery Friday, no mail service Saturday.
Garbage (SSC): regular pickup schedule.
WTA buses: regular schedule Friday, no buses Saturday.
Bellingham Herald offices: closed Friday, regular newspaper delivery both days.
State liquor stores: open but may have shorter hours. Lakeway store closing early, at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Grocery stores: Most have regular hours but Trader Joe's will close at 5 p.m. Saturday and The Community Food Co-op will close at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Bellis Fair: regular hours Friday. Mall closing Saturday at 6 p.m. Sears and Macy's close at 7 p.m. Saturday, JC Penney closes at 8 p.m. Saturday; Kohl's at 9 p.m. and Target has regular hours.
Movie theaters, most video stores: open both days.
Schools
Public schools: closed.
Whatcom Community College: closed.
Western Washington University: closed.
Bellingham Technical College: closed.
