BLAINE - Blaine and the Whatcom County parks department will hold a dedication ceremony for improvements to Semiahmoo Park and recent improvements to Semiahmoo Parkway.

Over the past two years, the parks department has been improving facilities at the park, which is on the Semiahmoo Spit. The improvements have included building renovation, boardwalks to the beach, new walkways, overlooks and bicycle lanes to the spit. The city recently completed a $1.17 million street project there that added a sidewalk, traffic islands and new stormwater treatment facilities. It also repaved the parkway and paved and reconfigured the parking lot for the park.

The dedication ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the park's Cannery Lodge, 9261 Semiahmoo Parkway.
