William Banham and Ryan Barnes of Ferndale have graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Barnes earned a bachelor of science in history and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Air Force. Banham received a bachelor of science in mathematics, was named a distinguished graduate, and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps.
Barnes will begin training in the space and missiles career field at California’s Vandenberg Air Force Base. Banham will report to Virginia’s Marine Corps Base Quantico for the six-month basic course for Marine Corps officers.
Barnes graduated from Ferndale High School in 2005, the same year Banham completed his home-school curriculum. While students in Whatcom County, both were members of the Bellingham Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the Air Force.
Ilya Bezugly of Maple Falls graduated from Pennsylvania College of Technology, in Williamsport, with a bachelor of science degree in building automation technology.
