SUDDEN VALLEY - Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District plan to flush water mains through the fire hydrants in Sudden Valley from Monday, April 6, through Friday, June 12.
During the routine maintenance, water can become discolored, said Rich Munson, engineering technician at the district. The discoloration does not pose a health hazard, but can stain laundry, he said.
Briefly running the cold water tap can help get rid of any discolored water. Residents should not run hot water until the discolored water is removed, to prevent it from entering the hot water tank, Munson said. Running hot water can prolong discoloration, he said.
Residents are encouraged to trim vegetation and remove debris around fire hydrants near their homes. In emergencies, firefighters can save time by having clear access to the hydrants, Munson said.
For more details, call the district from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 734-9224.
