BELLINGHAM - Local do-gooders are knocking down pins for a good cause this weekend.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington will host its 12th annual Bowl for Kids' Sake at Park Bowl at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 4. A separate event for those who work Saturdays is set for 5 p.m. Sunday.

Teams of up to five people can register online throughout the week or sign up the day of the event. For registered teams, there will be free bowling, pizza, T-shirts and raffle prizes.

  • TO PARTICIPATE

Register your team of up to five people for Bowl for Kids' Sake online at bbbs-nw.org, or call 671-6400 for more information.

"The bowling is really the celebration for everybody's hard work," said Marinda Peugh, fund development manager for the organization. "And it's our way to say thank you."

The goal for each team member is to raise $100, and the money raised goes directly to the organization's mentoring programs.

"It's bowling. Everybody likes bowling; you don't have to be really good to have fun," Peugh said. "It's an easy way for people to help because it's about making small donations. It's a big sense of community."

The event is the organization's biggest of the year, and the goal this year is to raise $60,000.

"So many people participate," Peugh said. "We have almost 90 teams, and each team has up to five people. And each one of those people has, who knows, five to 10 donors."
