Two community meetings have been set this week for the proposed South Fork Park.

The open houses will give the public a chance to review and comment on the plan, which includes ideas gathered from two public planning sessions in 2007.

The proposed regional park would be made up of three separate parcels totaling 603 acres - the Nesset Farm and homestead as well as the Overby and Galbraith farms. The Galbraith Farm has been referred to as East Acme Farm in the past.

All three parcels border the south fork of the Nooksack River off Mosquito Lake Road. The proposed park would be the county's largest - dethroning the 600-acre Hovander Homestead Park in Ferndale.

The meetings are set for:

• 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at Bellingham Senior Activity Center, 315 Halleck St.

• 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 28, at Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department headquarters, 3373 Mount Baker Highway near East Smith Road.
