DOT awards $395,000 contract to Battle Ground company for riverbank project

BELLINGHAM - The state Department of Transportation recently awarded a $395,000 contract to a Battle Ground construction company to stabilize a section of riverbank along Mount Baker Highway near Glacier.

Tapani Underground, Inc. will install 18 log jams and 31 other log structures along the bank of the Nooksack River west of Glacier. Construction is expected to begin in June.

Improvements to the area are part of a series of projects designed to keep the Nooksack River and its tributaries from washing away the highway or causing emergency closures during winter storms and flooding.
