transportation funding
Economic stimulus through transportation funding. Passed the House, 67-28, and the Senate, 45-4, adjusts the 2007-09 transportation budget by reducing it from $7.4 billion to $7.1 billion. In addition ESHB 1978 places $341.4 million in federal funding into the transportation budget. The $341.4 million was provided as part of the federal economic stimulus package. ESHB 1978 was delivered to the governor and signed into law.

alaskan way viaduct
Funding and study for the replacement of the Alaskan Way Viaduct. Passed the Senate, 43-6. Requires the state to take the necessary steps to expedite the environmental review and design processes to replace the Alaskan Way Viaduct with a deep-bore tunnel. Sets funding limits at $2.4 billion state funds with $400 million from tolling and directs the Washington State Department of Transportation to conduct a traffic and revenue study to determine the facility’s potential to generate toll revenue. ESSB 5768 is now before the House Transportation Committee for further consideration.

House Bill 1956
housing the homeless
Authorizes the housing of homeless persons on property owned or controlled by a church. Prohibits a county, a city or a town from enacting an ordinance or regulation that unreasonably interferes with the decisions or actions of a church regarding the location of housing or shelter for homeless persons on property the church owns or controls. Passed the House, 56-41, and is now before the Senate Human Services and Corrections Committee.
