The Everson City Council has a one-year position available, beginning Jan. 1.

The new council member will replace Rusty Laird who, along with his family, is going on a mission to Liberia to help build a hospital, school and dental clinic.

“It’s been fun for me in the last three years,” Laird said. “Anyone interested in local politics would find it exciting.”

Laird began his term in 2006, and has one year left with the council.

Applicants for the position must be a U.S. citizen, a Washington resident for at least three years, and an Everson resident for at least one year.

The position will remain open until it is filled. The application deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 23.

A resume and cover letter are required. Paperwork should be mailed to Everson City Hall, P.O. Box 315, Everson, WA 98247, or hand-delivered to City Hall, 111 W. Main St.
