BELLINGHAM - Two programs that provide mentors to Whatcom County children have received $$15,000 in grants from Bank of America through its Mentoring Initiative.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington was given a $7,000 marketing grant while Youthnet was awarded $8,000 during a Nov. 18 ceremony in Bellingham.
Big Brothers Big Sisters said the grant will be used to help the organization recruit new volunteers in Whatcom and Skagit counties to reach its goal of providing 360 children with mentors during 2009.
Youthnet serves at-risk youths and their families in five counties, including Whatcom.
