Students and graduates of schools in Whatcom County have won recognition for academics and other activities.
Several Bellingham students have been honored by Friends of the Bellingham Public Library for their efforts learning to read. The students are part of the federally funded Title 1 reading program and were selected by teachers Donna Ringwald and Lisa D’Hondt for showing effort and improvement. Students receiving the Maude Heyes-Fischer Award are: from Alderwood Elementary, Adrian Franco, Fidel Rojo and Carina Santos Morales; from Birchwood Elementary, Brenna James, Tauvie Kim and Darren Rodenberger; from Sunnyland Elementary, Sebastian Cochran, Angel Guerrero and Anthony Natola-Fristed; and from Roosevelt Elementary, Beau Hubsch.
Three Bellingham School District graduates have been named National AP Scholars, the highest honor granted by the Advanced Placement Program. To receive the honor, students must receive an average grade of 4 out of 5 points on all AP exams taken, and at least a grade of 4 on five or more tests. The students are Sehome High graduates Dylan Marriner and Christopher Pauly, and Bellingham High graduate Laura Asbe.
These Bellingham students have been named Advanced Placement Scholars with Distinction, which means they received an average grade of 3.5 on all tests taken and a grade of at least 3 on five or more tests. Bellingham High graduates Christopher Aiken, Taylor Boren, Ann Hoag, Michelle Klein, Brittany Lewis, Chelsea Parker, Daniel Read, Graham Thomas, Lilian Vanderstaay and Nathaniel Wheeler, and current Bellingham High seniors Madeline Hopper and Christopher Thorsvik. Sehome High graduates Andrew Carlson, Anders Crabo, Karen Frankenfeld, Jordan Helms, Marc Horan-Spatz, Katherine Howard, Claire Howell, Seung Lim Hyun, Brandon Lee, Margaret Liu, Catherine Moore, William Moore, Aaron Nash, Christopher Pauly, Kathryn Salisbury, Christina Thompson, Patricia Vanderbilt and Jenny Willis, and current Sehome High seniors Leo Baunach, Bryn Smith and Rolf Ypma.

Bellingham High graduates Hilary Anderson, Max Calenberg, Ezra Citron, Clifford Davis, Maxwell Freimund, Zack Halverson, Kelsey Hathaway and Alexa Mullarky, and current Bellingham High seniors Dylan Albrecht, Meghan Griffin, Samuel Lewis, Nigel Packer, Bethany Polhamus and Ryan Sutley. Sehome High graduates Elizabeth Carroll, Juliet Law, Tessa Nesbit, Rebecca Olason, Alyson Rae, Cathryn Smith and Anemarie Wynn, and current Sehome High seniors Angela Hess, Sean Keyes, Zoey Koontz and Benjamin Phillips. Squalicum High graduates Isaac Bahr, Heron Garcia Huerta, Elizabeth Hodgin and Kelly Shilhanek, and current Squalicum High seniors Drew Morrill and John Turk.

Sehome High graduates Mackenzie Allen, June Choi, Wesley Drilias, Cameron Haas, Hannah Ingham, Elani Koogle, Tomas Lough, Emily Rhoades, Carrie Sloane, Paul Teeft-Meeker, Kelsey Willson and Michail Youngquist, and current Sehome High seniors Brennan Ashton, Cristina Freels, Margaret Landis, Sara Matijascic, Titus Rhode, Jody Sharninghausen, Tyler VanDooren, Zi Yue Zhuang and junior Evan Ingalls. Squalicum High graduates Peter Beck, Shelley Byron, Ryan Ewing, Rowell Gacad, Boris Ilic, Saul Martinez, Jacqueline McCauley and Skyla Savitch, and current Squalicum High seniors David Amonsen, Claire Delbecq and Madeline Gray.
Five Bellingham students have been named Washington State University Regents Scholars. Bellingham High student Max Nelson was named a Silver Scholar, awarding him $8,000. Sehome High students Keith Davidson and Patrick Sodt, and Squalicum High students Aaron Doud and Brian Emmett will each receive Crimson Regents Scholarships of $6,000.
The Ferndale High School Marching Band and Guard placed first in their division at the Auburn Veterans Day Marching Band competition for the fourth straight year. Ferndale also won in the categories of best percussion, best color guard, best marching and best general effect.
