Fire destroys home on Mount Baker Highway

A fire destroyed an unoccupied house on the 1100 block of Mount Baker Highway just outside Bellingham city limits Thursday, Nov. 20.
The fire was reported about 10 a.m., but it spread so quickly that by the time firefighters arrived flames were coming from the doors, windows and the roof, said Bill Hewett, a fire investigator with the Whatcom County Fire Marshal's Office.
Hewett said the cause has not been determined. The house has been unoccupied for more than a year and does not have power connected to it.
