Allegiant Air will soon have direct flights from Bellingham to Oakland instead of San Francisco.
The airline will move its flight operations from San Francisco International Airport to Oakland International Airport on Feb. 2. The route will continue to operate twice weekly between Bellingham and Oakland, with service Monday and Friday.
Flights will depart Bellingham at 2:10 p.m., arriving at Oakland at 4:20 p.m. Flights leaving Oakland will depart at 5 p.m., arriving in Bellingham at 7 p.m. Allegiant will continue using the 150-seat MD-80 jet aircraft.
Tyri Squires, a spokeswoman for Allegiant, said the primary reason for the move is to save money by reducing operating costs.
Allegiant began direct flights to the San Francisco Bay Area in June.
