BELLINGHAM - Trick or treat? The second half of your property taxes are due Friday, Oct. 31.

Payments must be made in person, by phone or through the mail. The Whatcom County Treasurer's Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the county Courthouse, 311 Grand Ave. Payment drop boxes also are at each entrance to the Courthouse.

If paying by mail, an Oct. 31 postmark must be on the envelope to avoid penalties. The postmarking station for this area is in Everett, so there's no guarantee of a same-day postmark.

You can also pay by telephone with a credit card, which comes with a convenience fee for each transaction. Call the service at (866) 338-8741.

For more information, visit www.whatcomcounty.us/treasurer or call 676-6774.
