Wind gusts as strong as 40 miles per hour were predicted to blow through Western Washington in the afternoon and evening of Saturday, Oct. 4, according to the National Weather Service.
In Whatcom County, the wind storms knocked over power lines, starting two fires. A sailboat on Lake Whatcom also capsized.
The damage was greater in Seattle, where almost 8,500 people lost power.
The NWS predicted that the storm would be strong enough to snap tree limbs and knock out power in isolated areas. The storm was expected to move out toward the Strait of Juan de Fuca by Saturday evening.
