One to three inches of snow is predicted at Mount Baker on Saturday, and that could spell trouble for people hoping to drive to enjoy the sweeping views at Artist Point.
Artist Point is at the end of Mount Baker Highway, and offers almost 360-degree views of Mount Baker and Mount Shuksan.
Even an inch of snow can make the steep, windy road unsafe to drive on, so the Washington State Department of Transportation evaluates the road daily to see if it's safe to remain open, spokeswoman Bronlea Mishler said.
The highway closed Sept. 23 so crews could clear 2 inches of snow from the road before reopening it.
The road to Artist Point is usually closed from October through June because of snowfall. People planning on driving there should first call 599-2714 (between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.) or check the DOT Web site, www.wsdot.wa.gov, and put Artist Point in the search box.
