Cost Cutter, Food Pavilion and Everson Market are offering Helpful Harvest care packages for people and pets in need in Whatcom County.
Customers can purchase the packages for $10 at checkout. The packages are displayed along the stores' center aisles, said Sue Cole, public affairs director.
Each of the stores have pre-packed bags of non-perishable food items such as spaghetti, peanut butter and macaroni and cheese, Cole said.
The stores give the bags to food banks throughout the county, as well as the Lighthouse Mission and Project Hope, Cole said.
Dog and cat care packages, which include food and treats, also can be purchased in the stores. All donations go to the Whatcom Humane Society, Cole said.
The program will run throughout the year, she said.
Cost Cutter stores are located in Bellingham, Blaine and Ferndale. Food Pavilion is located in Bellingham and Lynden.
