Mt. Baker Highway to close on Sunday for bike event

BELLINGHAM - Portions of Mount Baker Highway will be closed Sunday, Sept. 7, for Ride 542, an organized hill climb for cyclists.

The highway will be closed from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Canyon Creek Road to Artist Point.

All private vehicles must be past Glacier by 7:45 am and Canyon Creek by 8 a.m. to avoid being caught in the closure.

In addition, the highway will temporarily close from milepost 33 to milepost 35 during the following times for the different starts:

- Century Ride Wave: 7:50 to 8 a.m.

- Summit Ride Wave: 8:20 to 8:30 a.m.

- Recreational Ride Wave:

8:50 to 9 a.m.

- Competitive Tandem Wave: 9:20 to 9:30 a.m.

- Competitive Men's/Women's Wave: 9:50 to 10 a.m.
