BELLINGHAM — An Amtrak train that derailed Sunday, Aug. 31 caused minor disruption in service to the area.

Train 516, which operates between Portland, Ore., and Bellingham came off the tracks but didn’t tip over inside the train yard, said Vernae Graham, Amtrak spokesperson.

There were no passengers on the train, Graham said.

A couple trains were affected by the derailment Monday, Sept. 1, with passengers from Bellingham and Portland both provided alternative transportation, likely by bus, Graham said.

“It wasn’t hugely disrupted,” she said.

There was no indication why the wheels of three cars came off the tracks, Graham said.

Amtrak service should be fully operational Tuesday, Sept. 2.
