Firefighters spent Tuesday evening attempting to contain a fire that scorched more than 10 acres of logging land south of Kendall.
Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman Candace Johnson said 45 people were involved in fighting the fire, with crews battling on the ground and dropping flame retardant from the air.
Johnson said the area affected, approximately eight miles from the end of the pavement on North Fork Road, was in the process of being logged. Many of the affected trees had been cut down and were awaiting transport off the mountain.
Original reports indicate that some logging equipment was threatened by the fire, but Johnson said there are no structures in the immediate area. Sierra Pacific Co. owns the timber, but Johnson would not say which company was doing the logging.
The cause of the fire was undetermined Tuesday night.
